Armed For Apocalypse Unleash Crushing New Single “FISTS LIKE FEATHERS” and announce Fourth Album THE EARTH IS BREATHING BENEATH ME

Brace yourselves : Pacific Northwest sludge metal mainstays Armed For Apocalypse return with purpose and weight, unveiling their blistering new single “FISTS LIKE FEATHERS” : the first taste of their forthcoming fourth full-length, ‘THE EARTH IS BREATHING’ BENEATH ME, due April 24 via Church Road Records (MASTIFF).

Recorded at GodCity Studio under the watchful ear of Kurt Ballou (Converge), the album marks a new chapter for the band, pairing their signature density with a sharper, more dynamic sonic edge. Ballou’s production captures both the claustrophobic heaviness and the breathing space between impacts, giving the material a visceral immediacy that feels both punishing and deliberate.

“FISTS LIKE FEATHERS” sets the tone with tectonic riffs, grinding low-end, and a slow-burn tension that erupts into waves of feedback and fury. It’s a track that embodies contrast—weight and lift, fragility and force—channeling emotional heft through towering sludge grooves and serrated noise textures. The song arrives alongside a stark, atmospheric video directed by Jon R Moore, visually mirroring the track’s bleak intensity.

Long known for their blend of post-metal sprawl and sludge/hardcore/meltal brutality, Armed For Apocalypse sound more focused than ever here, sharpening their sonic attack without sacrificing the immersive heaviness that defines them. If this lead single is any indication, ‘THE EARTH IS BREATHING BENEATH ME’ promises to be their most punishing and expansive record to date.

“’The Earth is Breathing Beneath Me’ isn’t a metaphor. It’s a realisation that the ground beneath our feet is alive, and we’re all just passengers on its pulse. It’s that hum of dread and wonder that defines Armed For Apocalypse’s fourth full-length album: a towering, grooved-out, post-metal monolith carved from grief, power, and purpose.” (AfA)
