Some bands release albums. Others build worlds (and expanse universe).
Released this spring, ‘EARTH’ marks the final chapter of the science-fiction saga that French modern progressive (extreme djent) metal quintet Buy Jupiter has been meticulously building since 2013. Rooted in the djent tradition yet pushing well beyond it, the band draws from the same vein of modern extreme metal that runs through Between The Buried And Me, Meshuggah, Vildhjarta, Lamb Of God, Textures and Veil Of Maya — absorbing those influences and reshaping them into something with its own internal logic.

Inspired by Isaac Asimov’s short story of the same name, the record closes a narrative arc initiated with ‘Departure (2016), expanded through ‘Crossworlds’ (2017) and ‘Eclipse’ (2019), and now brought to its logical and devastating conclusion. The story resumes with the arrival of the Jovian exiles on Earth, where a new struggle emerges around the future of humanity itself. Yet while the narrative framework remains central, ‘EARTH’ succeeds because the music is powerful enough to stand on its own.
Built upon crushing grooves, oppressive polyrhythms and cinematic atmospheres, the album pushes Buy Jupiter‘s artistic vision further than ever — defined by storytelling rather than technical exhibitionism.
The previously released singles « The Wake », « Embrace Of The Serpent God » and « Surge » offered an early glimpse into the record’s scope. Across the full album, however, those pieces reveal themselves as part of a much larger picture. Dense, immersive and relentlessly intense, ‘EARTH’ rarely pauses for breath — delivering nearly an hour of progressive extremity where atmosphere and aggression constantly feed one another, and where the heaviest moments feel earned rather than imposed.

What truly elevates the project is its commitment to world-building. Each of the album’s eight tracks is accompanied by an original short story published through the band’s website, offering alternative perspectives on the events unfolding in the music. These aren’t liner notes or promotional add-ons — they’re a genuine extension of the universe, transforming Earth from concept album into something closer to a fully realised multimedia work.
The album reaches its climax with the monumental eleven-minute « Battle For Earth », a piece that perfectly encapsulates the band’s vision. Crushing and cinematic in equal measure, it draws together the tension, atmosphere and rhythmic weight that have defined the project from the beginning.

With ‘EARTH’, Buy Jupiter achieves something increasingly rare: the successful completion of a long-form artistic vision. Ten years of storytelling, world-building and musical evolution, brought to a close with focus and conviction.
The journey is complete. The signal has reached Earth.
