Who would have thought that somewhere between a like-addicted cat and chaotic hardcore lies common ground? Well, that world is ours — and the proof comes in the form of “Instacat,” the new video from French band PARLOR (hardcore-punk meets post-metal). Their upcoming release — blending influences from Botch, Converge, and Breach — takes shape as a biting satire of our toxic, often obsessive relationship with social media.

The concept?
3 minutes inside the daily life of a cocaine-fueled “catfluencer.” Forget TikTok or Snapchat — welcome to Instagram and its latest digital superstar: the Instacat. The track will appear on Comments’, an EP produced by Francis Caste (Comity, Kickback, Regarde Les Hommes Tomber…) at Studio Sainte-Marthe , and set for release on October 15 in cassette, LP, and digital formats via Duality Records & Source Atone Records (Demande A La Poussière, Junon, Nature Morte etc.).

Physical preorders for the fuzzy anti-hero are already available through the Source Atone Records online store.

“‘Instacat’ portrays the everyday life of a cocaine-addicted catfluencer, obsessed with itself, its stories, and its view counts — an unworthy heir and corrupted version of the classic Nyan Cat with its rainbow 8-bit pixels.”

“Conditioned by its influencer habits, incapable of grasping the futility and emptiness of the posts and hashtags flooding its followers’ smartphones, Instacat embodies the vanity that resides within each of us — prisoners enslaved to the cruel, dehumanizing idols of the digital age.”
