Heavy Roots, Raw Energy

At its core, New Favourite blends the heaviness of hardcore with the raw, unfiltered energy of early alternative rock. Sonically, the band channels pure spontaneity and sincerity — all anchored by a seriously low tuning.

On the lineup: Alex (The Prestige) on guitar, Aurélien (no relation to the author, promise) on drums, and Pierre (As We Draw) on bass — with all three taking turns behind the mic.

After dropping videos for their single “Tape Worms”, the French power trio has now officially released their self-titled debut EP. The record is out digitally through Blood Blast Distribution, a new digital service recently launched by metal giant Nuclear Blast (home to Meshuggah, among others).

For the record, New Favourite started as a bit of a wild bet — a crazy idea born between longtime friends Alex and Aurélien in the middle of Hardcore Café, a bar in Ostrava (Czech Republic), where the two crossed paths while touring with their respective bands. From that spur-of-the-moment decision came a promise: start a band once back in France. The wager’s biggest payoff? This self-titled EP.

Recorded and produced by Amaury Sauvé at The Apiary Studio (Birds In Row, Death Engine, PAST, TOEKAN…), the debut EP is available on all major streaming platforms (Apple Music, Spotify, and more) — and you can also listen to it in full just below.
