One of the biggest post-rock discoveries of the past 2 years, UK quintet Din of Celestial Birds made waves with their 2023 debut The Night Is For Dreamers—a masterful blend of delicate textures, soaring crescendos, and crushing climaxes that instantly marked them as a rising force in the European scene.
Then after participating to the Dunk Festival, they now present Live at Dunk! Festival ’24—a powerful and emotionally-charged live album capturing their debut appearance at one of the world’s most revered post-rock gatherings. As part of dunk!records’ legendary live series, which has previously spotlighted the likes of Amenra, Russian Circles, Pelican, God Is An Astronaut, and We Lost The Sea, this album cements Din of Celestial Birds’ place among the genre’s rising stars.
The performance, recorded at the iconic Balzaal stage during dunk!festival’s 20th anniversary year, brings to life the band’s critically praised debut album ‘The Night Is For Dreamers’, along with highlights from their 2019 EP 1. Featuring six tracks, mixed by Chris Core and mastered by James Leonard at Plastic Lobster Studios, the set flows with purpose, energy, and emotional depth—showcasing a band confident in its voice and hungry for more.
“It was a huge privilege to play at such an important festival in the post-rock scene,” the band shared, “and it’s amazing to join such an impressive roster of bands with our own Live @ Dunk! release.”
From the thunderous riffs of “Laureate of American Lowlife” to the quiet elegance of “Rose” and the surging energy of fan-favorite “Downpour”, every song is delivered with greater intensity, tighter cohesion, and electrifying presence. Spoken word samples and dynamic shifts give the set a filmic quality—while tracks like “Schoolyard Sessions” and “I Love You But It’s Killing Me” reveal just how far the Leeds-based quintet has evolved since their early days. One listen and it’s clear: this is not just a live album, it’s a statement of arrival.
More than a keepsake or teaser for the upcoming May 29–31 festival, Live at Dunk! Festival ’24 is an essential listen—proof that Din of Celestial Birds are not just studio darlings but a live powerhouse, capable of stirring emotion and igniting a crowd. It’s rare to see a band so early in their journey capture lightning in a bottle, but – somewhere around the corner between bands like Explosions In The Sky, God Is An Astronaut, Maybeshewill, MONO, Russian Circles or We Lost The Sea… – this LP does exactly that.
