Anthemic, uncompromising and eternal.
During over two decades, Planes Mistaken for Stars carved their name deep into the heart of heavy music. Emerging from the late-’90s underground, they fused post-hardcore, heavy-rock, sludge, and emotional grit into something uniquely their own—raw, loud, and unapologetically alive. Last fall, they returned with their swan song: ‘Do You Still Love Me?’, released on CD, LP & Digital via Deathwish Inc. (Converge, Modern Life Is War, Pianos Become The Teeth…).
This isn’t just another album. It’s a parting gift from late frontman Gared O’Donnell—written and recorded while he was undergoing treatment for terminal cancer. Created in isolation during the early pandemic and produced by longtime collaborator Sanford Parker (Buried At Sea, Minsk, Mirrors for Psychic Warfare), this record is a final burst of creative fire: a howl from the edge, a love letter from the abyss.
‘Do You Still Love Me?’ is brutal in its honesty and beautiful in its vulnerability. From the opening blow of “Matthew Is Dead” to the devastating slow burn of “The Calming,” every track bleeds with urgency and the quiet defiance of facing the inevitable. It’s the sound of a band tearing themselves open—for their fans, for each other, and for Gared.
Gared spent the last year of his life doing exactly what he loved, writing and recording music. It is heartbreaking to do this without him, but we know that he would want for us to complete what we had started together. We will do our absolute best to honor his legacy and spread word of the legend that he embodied.
It’s noisy. It’s tender. It’s unrelenting. And it’s the most emotionally honest album Planes have ever made.
This is not just the end of an era. It’s a reminder of why Planes Mistaken for Stars mattered—and why they always will.
Listen. Remember. Rage. Grieve. Love.
R.I.P Gared.
