After a couple of years remaining silent, Belgian instrumental trio Oldd Wvrms returned from the shadows with ‘Abysséphale’—their most focused and cathartic work to date, now available for full streaming below. Known for their evolving sound rooted in sludge, doom, and post-metal, Oldd Wvrms continue to push beyond genre constraints, delivering a dense, emotionally charged listening experience.

OLDD WVRMS écoute les ténèbres

‘Abysséphale’ consists of two expansive compositions—“Omniscient” and “Omnipotent”—each spanning roughly 15 minutes. Despite the minimalist tracklist, the album unfolds as a cohesive long-form journey. According to the band, the pieces explore two facets of depression: the cerebral (« Omniscient ») and the physical (« Omnipotent »). The result is an immersive and unrelenting soundscape that demands and rewards deep listening.

“Omniscient” opens with thunderous percussion and somber guitar work, evolving into a hypnotic groove before reaching a crushing, cathartic climax. Then, “Omnipotent” delves into darker territory with anxious textures and intricately layered instrumentation, gradually building in intensity before closing with a pummeling, thrash-inflected finale.

While ‘Abysséphale’ builds on the groundwork of 2019’s ‘Codex Tenebris’, it marks a clear refinement of Oldd Wvrms’ voice—instrumental, introspective, and emotionally raw. The absence of vocals invites personal interpretation, with every movement steeped in tension, progression, and catharsis.

This bold record – released in CD, LP, tape & Digital via Irish label Cursed Monk Records (Ivory Primarch, Nomadic Rituals, PYTHIAN, silver gallery…) and Belgian recent imprint MFSAM Records – isn’t just a comeback; it’s a bold affirmation of artistic intent. Full stream it and experience one of the year’s most gripping and uncompromising post-metal releases.
