Ukrainian progressive rock band Vøvk makes a bold and resonant return with the release of “Promin”, the first single from their forthcoming sophomore album. Known for their genre-defying fusion of prog-rock, post-hardcore, and alternative rock, Vøvk channels raw emotional depth and sonic experimentation—drawing comparisons to acts like Elder, Mastodon, The Mars Volta, Deafheaven and The Smashing Pumpkins.

Hailing from Kyiv, Vøvk has carved out a space in Eastern Europe’s underground rock scene with their symbolic lyricism, electrifying live shows, and commitment to creative integrity. After more than two years of silence, the band is reemerging with a new artistic vision—one that embraces both innovation and solidarity.

“Promin” marks not only a sonic evolution for Vøvk but also a remarkable international collaboration. The track features Johannes Persson, frontman of the acclaimed Swedish post-metal band Cult of Luna, who delivers a searing vocal performance entirely in Ukrainian—a first for the iconic vocalist. His participation is both musically potent and personally meaningful, underscoring a spirit of cross-border support and artistic unity.

“What I didn’t know was that Vøvk wanted me to sing in Ukrainian, a language I don’t speak, understand, or have any real grasp of. But hey, why not? All I could do was give it my best. I’m happy with the result and genuinely proud that Vøvk put their trust in me.” (Johannes Persson)

The track builds with relentless intensity, culminating in Persson’s commanding entry—a moment that encapsulates the song’s central metaphor: the breaking of light through darkness. Drawing on visual cues from early cinema, the accompanying video visualizer pays homage to the fantastical world of Georges Méliès, adding another layer of surrealism to the song’s powerful atmosphere.

“This song needed a sense of support and unity. We believed Johannes could bring that feeling—and we weren’t wrong. He took a risk singing in Ukrainian and delivered it authentically, sincerely, and with his signature sound.” (Oleksandr Kuts, Vøvk)

With “Promin” (Ukrainian for “Ray”), Vøvk signals the dawn of a new creative era—one where bold collaborations, emotional vulnerability, and musical defiance converge. The track is now available on all major streaming platforms, with the full album slated for release this autumn.
