Sludge-metal / crust duo from the South-West of France MonastR is the rock solid (re)discovery at the start of the year for the editorial team, arriving with an EP titled Of Dust And Bones, set for release on January 15 in both vinyl and digital formats through the following labels: Counteract Recordings, Coups de Couteau, Insane Society records, Malammòre DIY, Nothing to Harvest Records & SHOVE Records.
The result draws on the legacy of heavyweights like AmenRa, Sleep, and Neurosis — something of a Holy Trinity when it comes to slow, crushing, and unapologetically raw sounds — while also echoing the intensity of bands such as Alaskan, Fall of Efrafa, His Hero Is Gone, and Red Apollo.
