Introducing Onsetter – A Ferocious New Voice from the Boise Underground
Emerging from the high desert of Boise, Idaho, Onsetter is poised to leave a lasting mark with a sound that fuses suffocating heaviness, emotional unrest, and razor-sharp precision, blending hardcore; metal; noise; punk and sludge in the same shaker.
Formed by members of Blackcloud, Throes and Ranges, this five-piece draws from a deep well of sonic influence — channeling the crushing density of LLNN, the chaotic fervor of Breather Resist, the dynamic textures of Deftones, and the rhythmic complexity of Meshuggah.
Add in the visceral grit of Cult Leader and the brooding weight of Yashira, and you begin to trace the brutal yet deliberate DNA of Onsetter.
Their self-titled debut EP, released last year, delivered a raw and unrelenting statement — a seething blend of aggression and tightly woven composition. It carved out a bleak emotional landscape, exploring despondency, dissonance, and the decay of the human condition.
Now, their second EP, ‘Malice’, takes that vision even further. Pressed as a limited-edition single-sided 12” vinyl — with a screen-printed B-side and just 100 copies available via Mishap Records, The Ghost Is Clear Records (BIGWATER, Canyons, Easy Prey, Whores., etc.), and directly from the band — ‘Malice’ is a tighter, more punishing evolution.
Riff-drenched, cathartic, and urgent, it reflects a shared worldview shaped by frustration, despair, and a need to confront the rot of modern life.
