If post-grunge, doom and psychedelia walked into a bar somewhere in the American desert, MOON DESTROYS would probably be playing on the jukebox. Loudly.
There is something refreshing about a band that understands that ‘heavy’ doesn’t necessarily mean slow, miserable or endlessly self-serious. MOON DESTROYS have always occupied their own corner of the heavy rock spectrum — one where massive riffs coexist with infectious hooks, psychedelic textures and genuine songwriting restraint. Their upcoming sophomore album ‘OMNI’ might be the moment where all those ingredients finally click into place.
Featuring – for those who somehow managed to miss our previous MOON DESTROYS coverage (we’re disappointed, but willing to forgive you) – current and former members of Abrams, Gold Pyramid, Torche and Royal Thunder, the US power-trio are gearing up to release ‘OMNI’ on September 4th via Blues Funeral Recordings (Abrams, Domkraft, Elder, Lowrider…), and if the first two singles are any indication, they’re not interested in playing it safe.
« What would become ‘Flowers’ was one of the first demos given to me from Evan and Juan. The groove, the feel, and the signature Juan Montoya lead: it was all there for me to feel truly inspired. The words just started to pour out of me effortlessly, which is mostly never the case.

Both « Flowers » and « Missing Wish » showcase a band that has sharpened its songwriting without sacrificing the expansive qualities that made 2023’s ‘She Walks By Moonlight’ such an intriguing debut. ‘OMNI’ promises a glorious mixture of post-grunge, riff-doom and driving psychedelia, but more importantly, it sounds like a band fully comfortable with its own identity.
« Flowers » might be one of the catchiest songs MOON DESTROYS have written to date. Infectious vocal melodies, irresistible grooves and towering guitars make it an immediate standout, embracing the band’s more accessible side without ever feeling calculated.
On the other hand, « Missing Wish » leans deeper into the band’s heavier and more cinematic tendencies. Thunderous and expansive, it further demonstrates the breadth of what ‘OMNI’ appears ready to offer.
Taken together, both singles feel less like standalone releases and more like complementary pieces of a much larger sonic universe.
“We needed a couple more tracks to round out the record, so Evan dug into his archives and sent over the instrumental for what became ‘Missing Wish’. Even though the demo was a few years old, I was instantly hooked by its sheer heaviness and the open space it left for vocals.
Vocally, I wanted to push my boundaries by blending raw grit with accessible melodies. Lyrically, ‘Missing Wish’ dives straight into the heavy pain of fractured trust and the ghost of a potential that can never exist”. (Zach Amster)
Following a breakout 2025 that saw MOON DESTROYS touring alongside Elder, Dozer and The Sword, founding members Juan Montoya (ex-Torche) and Evan Diprima (Gold Pyramid, ex-Royal Thunder) welcomed Zach Amster (Abrams) on lead vocals and rhythm guitar at the beginning of 2026. The chemistry is immediately apparent across both tracks.
Juan Montoya perhaps summarized the spirit of the album best:
« OMNI is a universe built upon constantly shifting sands, written by three souls who still believe heavy rock can save this damned world ».
Heavy rock doesn’t need saving. But if it did, we’d happily let MOON DESTROYS give it a shot.
