When it comes to world-class discoveries — the kind that grab you within seconds and leave your goosebumps doing the talking — the UK and Irish scenes have been treating us rather well.
Across different corners of the musical landscape, A Burial at Sea, Death Goals, Employed to Serve, Flies Are Spies From Hell, Sugar Horse, Sugar Horse and Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster have all given us plenty to get excited about. Now Din of Celestial Birds have joined that company with one of the biggest revelations of our listening year.
The Leeds instrumental quintet recently made a striking appearance at ArcTanGent, bringing their debut album ‘The Night Is for Dreamers’ to the stage. Released this summer on CD, vinyl and digital through A Cheery Wave Records and A Thousand Arms, the record finds a fitting home alongside releases from artists such as Girih, Glaston, Jeffk or The Color Of Cyan.
Somewhere between the atmospheric depth of Barrens, the emotional sweep of Explosions in the Sky and MONO, and the drive of God Is an Astronaut, Maybeshewill and Russian Circles, DIN OF CELESTIAL BIRDS build a post-rock sound with both delicacy and considerable weight.
An excellent discovery, then. Your carefully organised listening schedule will understand.
